Council Resumes Legislative Sessions at City Hall

Brisbane City Council officially resumes its legislative calendar today, Tuesday, 3 February 2026, marking the end of the 2025-26 summer recess. Councillors and committee members are returning to City Hall to begin the first full week of sessions for the year, with a heavy schedule of committee meetings leading into the first ordinary Council meeting of 2026 this afternoon.

Morning Committee Schedule

The morning is dedicated to various standing committees, where specific policy areas and suburban projects will be reviewed before heading to the full chamber. The scheduled sessions for today include:

  • 8:30 am: City Planning, Suburban Renewal and Economic Development Committee.
  • 9:00 am: Public Transport Committee and the Infrastructure Committee.
  • 9:30 am: Finance and City Governance Committee and the Customer Services Committee.
  • 10:00 am: Community and the Arts Committee.
  • 10:30 am: Environment, Parks and Sustainability Committee.

These sessions are expected to address the progress of the city’s major infrastructure projects and the ongoing "More Homes, Sooner" initiative, which aims to unlock housing opportunities in middle-ring suburbs.

Full Council Session and Key Priorities

The highlight of the day will be the full Council meeting at 1:00 pm in the Council Chamber. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is expected to lead the session, focusing on the administration's 2026 priorities. Among the top agenda items is the continued expansion of the Brisbane Metro and the implementation of the 2025-26 Budget initiatives, which include the citywide green bin rollout and the maintenance of the 50-cent public transport fares that have seen record ridership over the summer.

With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games drawing closer, today’s session is also likely to touch upon long-term planning for new venues and transport legacies. The Lord Mayor has previously emphasized a "suburbs-first" guarantee, with a significant portion of the current budget allocated to infrastructure improvements outside the Central Business District.

Public Attendance

Members of the public are welcome to attend the committee meetings and the 1:00 pm Council session in person at City Hall, located at 64 Adelaide Street. For those unable to attend in person, the afternoon session will be available for viewing via the Council’s official livestreaming services.
