Public Transport: Major Rail Network Shutdown

Commuters are reminded that the 23-day intensive rail network shutdown remains in effect today, Friday, 10 April 2026. As part of a coordinated effort to fast-track Cross River Rail and the European Train Control System (ETCS) upgrades, services are significantly altered. On most lines, including the Airport, Beenleigh, Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast routes, buses are currently replacing trains. Passengers are advised to allow an additional 60 to 90 minutes for journeys, particularly when traveling to Brisbane International Airport.

Road and Bridge Advisories: Story Bridge Maintenance

Motorists traveling through the inner city should be aware of ongoing maintenance on the Story Bridge. Currently, a single southbound lane remains closed to traffic. This restriction is part of a multi-stage restoration program to repair concrete structures beneath the road surface. This partial closure will persist until 9:00 PM on Saturday, 11 April, followed by a scheduled full bridge closure over the weekend for the Tour de Brisbane event. Significant congestion is expected on the Bradfield Highway; please use the Clem7 or Captain Cook Bridge as alternate routes.

Cross River Rail Construction and Site Impact

Major construction activity continues across the CBD and inner suburbs. Key notices for Friday, 10 April include:

  • Roma Street: Pedestrian and traffic changes are active on the northern side of Roma Street. Work is currently focused on removing the acoustic shed and concrete slab at the corner of Parkland Boulevard.
  • Albert Street: The section of Albert Street between Mary and Charlotte streets remains closed to all vehicle traffic to facilitate underground station building.
  • Woolloongabba: Intermittent lane and footpath closures are in place on Main and Stanley streets as crews finalize utility upgrades and streetscape reconstruction.

Health Advisory: Measles Alert

Queensland Health has maintained an active health alert following confirmed measles cases linked to the Brisbane International Airport and the Gold Coast region. Residents who have recently visited these locations should remain vigilant for symptoms, including fever, cough, and a blotchy rash. Authorities urge anyone experiencing symptoms to contact their GP in advance of their visit to prevent further community transmission.

Official Deadlines and Announcements

Today, Friday, 10 April, marks the final day for nominations for the 2026 Queensland Reconciliation Awards. All submissions must be received by 5:00 PM. Additionally, the city is preparing for Queensland Youth Week, which officially commences tomorrow, 11 April. Residents can expect increased activity in local parks and community hubs as event setups begin.
