A combination of a major city-wide cycling event, heavy vehicle infrastructure works, and planned road closures in the Central Business District will impact travel times throughout the afternoon. Authorities are recommending that travelers allow for at least 30 to 45 minutes of additional travel time, particularly when crossing the river or navigating the inner-city reach.

Major Cycling Event Road Closures

The most widespread disruptions today are caused by a large-scale cycling event. Extensive road closures are currently in place across several key suburbs, including South Brisbane, Kangaroo Point, Auchenflower, and Toowong. Affected motorists should note that the following major thoroughfares are subject to full or partial closures until late this afternoon:

• South Brisbane: Grey Street, Melbourne Street, and Vulture Street are experiencing rolling closures to facilitate the race course.
• Western Suburbs: Heavy restrictions are in place on Milton Road and Mt Coot-Tha Road, with diversions funneling traffic toward Coronation Drive.
• Kangaroo Point: Main Street and surrounding local roads near the Story Bridge are seeing intermittent stoppages.

CBD Crane Works and Eagle Street Closure

In the heart of the city, major infrastructure maintenance continues to block through-access on the eastern edge of the CBD. Eagle Street remains fully closed between Charlotte Street and Market Street to accommodate heavy crane operations. This closure is scheduled to remain in effect until 5:00 AM Monday morning.
