Public Service Announcement: Essential City Notices for March 21

Brisbane City Council and Queensland Health have released several public notices and health advisories active for Saturday, 21 March 2026. Residents and visitors are advised to review the following updates regarding local infrastructure, public transport, and health safety measures.

Traffic and Transport Disruptions

Major infrastructure projects and maintenance works will impact travel across the city and the wider rail network this weekend:

  • CBD Crane Works: Significant traffic changes are in place in Brisbane City from Friday evening through to Monday morning, 23 March. Road users should expect detours and follow all posted signage in the central business district.
  • Gold Coast Line Track Work: On Saturday, 21 March, and Sunday, 22 March, rail buses will replace train services in both directions between Roma Street and Banoon stations. Travelers heading to the Gold Coast or Brisbane Airport should allow for significant delays and plan their journeys via the Translink website.
  • Moorooka Station Closure: Residents are reminded that Moorooka station remains closed for Cross River Rail construction and accessibility upgrades. This facility is expected to remain out of service until late 2027.
  • Balmoral Infrastructure Works: Daily road occupancy for excavation projects commences today, 21 March, in various locations across Balmoral. Works are scheduled between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Park Maintenance and Facility Closures

Several suburban parks are currently undergoing upgrades, with specific areas restricted for public safety:

  • Bulimba Memorial Park: The playground is closed for equipment upgrades and shade structure installation, with works expected to continue until mid-April.
  • Wills Street Park, Coorparoo: Renovation works on the playground are ongoing; the play area will remain inaccessible while new equipment is installed.
  • The Lake Parklands, Forest Lake: The picnic area is currently closed for facility improvements and is scheduled to reopen on 26 March.

Public Health and Environmental Advisories

Health authorities have issued several warnings for residents and travelers in the South East Queensland region:

  • Measles Alert: A public health alert is active for Brisbane International Airport. Travelers are urged to monitor for symptoms and ensure their vaccinations are up to date.
  • Melioidosis Warning: Following recent wet weather, residents are cautioned to avoid contact with soil and floodwaters to prevent melioidosis, a serious bacterial infection. Protective clothing should be worn during gardening or cleanup activities.
  • Flood Safety: With several flood warnings still active across the state, authorities remind all motorists to drive to conditions and never attempt to drive through floodwaters.

Council Services and Administration

  • Pay-by-App Parking: The new parking provider, PayStay, is now operational across Brisbane as an additional payment option for on-street parking alongside existing providers.
  • Autumn Recess: Brisbane City Council is now in its Autumn Recess. Regular committee and ordinary meetings are suspended, with the next session scheduled for May 12.
