Community Notice: Facilities and Library Services

Residents are reminded that the Ashgrove Library remains closed this Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The facility is currently undergoing essential upgrades to its air conditioning system. This closure, which began in late January, is expected to continue until mid-March 2026. Patrons are encouraged to utilize the digital library services or visit nearby branches such as Bardon or Mitchelton during this period. For those with reserved items, please check the Brisbane City Council library portal for alternative collection points.

Public Health Advisories: Measles and Summer Safety

Queensland Health has issued a persistent health alert for the Greater Brisbane area following a series of confirmed measles cases in early 2026. As of February 11, health officials are monitoring eight cases across the state, including locally acquired infections. Residents who are not fully vaccinated or are unsure of their status are urged to contact their GP. Symptoms to watch for include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a red blotchy rash.

Additionally, during this peak summer and storm season, authorities have issued the following health and safety precautions:

  • Mosquito-Borne Viruses: With over 650 cases of Ross River virus and 160 cases of Barmah Forest virus recorded this season, residents are advised to wear insect repellent and remove any standing water around their homes to reduce breeding grounds.
  • Bat Handling Warning: Due to the risk of Australian Bat Lyssavirus, the public is strictly advised not to touch distressed or dead bats. If a bat is found on the ground, please contact local wildlife rescue services immediately.
  • Summer Hygiene: Following an unseasonal spike in respiratory illnesses, including influenza, health officials recommend maintaining high standards of hand hygiene and staying home if feeling unwell.

Traffic and Roadwork Notifications

Brisbane City Council is currently managing several major infrastructure and maintenance projects. Motorists should anticipate delays and changed traffic conditions at the following locations on Wednesday, February 11:

  • Fairfield: Excavation works continue on Venner Road. Traffic control is in place, and these works are scheduled to remain active through mid-March.
  • Fig Tree Pocket: Construction activity on Kenmore Road will impact travel times throughout the day.
  • Greenslopes: Public utility maintenance has commenced on Marquis Street, with works expected to continue until early April.
  • Fortitude Valley: Ongoing maintenance on Gregory Terrace and St Pauls Terrace may result in lane closures and parking restrictions.

Park and Foreshore Upgrades

Progress continues on the Brighton Foreshore Upgrade, which entered its main construction phase in early January. While the foreshore remains partially accessible, certain zones are fenced off for public safety as crews work to improve the coastline for visitors. In the northern suburbs, early enabling works for the Victoria Park precinct are also visible as part of the broader 2032 legacy planning.
