Council Convenes for Final Standing Committee Meetings

Today, Tuesday, 10 March 2026, marks a significant day in the municipal calendar as the Brisbane City Council holds its final round of standing committee meetings before the scheduled autumn recess. Councillors are meeting at Brisbane City Hall to finalize reports and debate key policy items across various portfolios including infrastructure, transport, and city planning.

Busy Morning Schedule at City Hall

The day’s proceedings began early with a series of committee sessions designed to address the city's most pressing logistical and social issues. The scheduled sessions for today include:

  • 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: City Planning, Suburban Renewal, and Economic Development Committee.
  • 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Public Transport Committee and the Infrastructure Committee.
  • 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM: Finance and City Governance Committee and the Customer Services Committee.
  • 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Community and the Arts Committee.
  • 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Environment, Parks, and Sustainability Committee.

Following these specialized sessions, the full Council is expected to convene in the Council Chamber at 1:00 PM for the weekly ordinary meeting to vote on the recommendations brought forward by these committees.

Key Agenda Items: Olympic Legacy and Housing

A primary focus of today’s discussions is the continued preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Recent legislative updates from February have formally defined designated Games villages and transport infrastructure, and committees today are reviewing land tenure changes at Victoria Park. These changes are essential to ensure that construction on the new Brisbane Stadium and National Aquatic Centre remains on track to begin by June 2026.

Suburban renewal also remains at the forefront of the agenda. Following recent media announcements from the Lord Mayor’s office regarding the need to unlock more homes sooner, the City Planning committee is reviewing strategies to expedite housing developments within the city's existing footprint.

Transition to Autumn Recess

According to the official 2026 Council and Standing Committee Meeting and Recess Calendar, today represents the final day of committee-level activity for the current session. While a final full Council meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, 17 March, the standing committees will not meet again until the autumn recess concludes on 12 May 2026. This break allows councillors and staff to focus on administrative duties and community consultation before the winter session begins.
