Brisbane City Council Convenes Final Meeting Ahead of Autumn Recess

The Brisbane City Council is gathering today, Tuesday, 17 March 2026, for its 4790th ordinary meeting. This session represents a significant milestone in the local government calendar as it marks the final scheduled council meeting before the administration enters its annual Autumn Recess. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM in the Council Chamber at City Hall, presided over by the Lord Mayor and the Chairperson of Council.

As the final sitting day for several weeks, the agenda is packed with critical reviews and administrative transitions. A major portion of today’s proceedings involves the formal consideration of committee reports generated during the previous week. The council will vote on or adopt recommendations from the following standing committees:

  • Establishment and Coordination Committee
  • City Planning, Suburban Renewal and Economic Development Committee
  • Infrastructure Committee and Public Transport Committee
  • Environment, Parks and Sustainability Committee
  • Finance and City Governance Committee
  • Community and the Arts Committee
  • Customer Services Committee

A focal point of today’s Question Time is expected to be a detailed inquiry into the council’s "City Projects" team. Documents indicate that councillors are seeking specific data on staff numbers and the recent restructuring of the department. Questions have been tabled regarding the exact date the City Projects team became obsolete and the allocation of personnel across various municipal projects over the last three financial years.

Furthermore, the council is expected to address the $100 million pipeline of proposed infrastructure projects for Pallara. Following recent announcements by Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, today’s session is intended to provide greater transparency regarding the locations, specific expenditure, and delivery timelines for these works. This investment is viewed as a critical response to the rapid residential growth in Brisbane’s outer southern suburbs.

Prior to the formal commencement of the political session, the civic atmosphere at City Hall was set by the Australian Army Band Brisbane. The ensemble performed a free lunchtime concert from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM as part of the Lord Mayor’s City Hall Concert series, a long-standing tradition that precedes Tuesday council meetings. Following the conclusion of today’s business, the council will enter a formal recess period. Standing committees and ordinary meetings are not scheduled to resume until 12 May 2026, allowing representatives to focus on ward-specific community engagement before the winter budget sessions begin in June.
