City Notices: Brisbane Public Health Alerts and Infrastructure Updates for March 6

Public Health: Measles Advisory for Brisbane International Airport

Queensland Health has maintained an active public health alert for the Greater Brisbane area following confirmed measles cases reported in early March 2026. The advisory specifically identifies Brisbane International Airport as a potential exposure site. Residents and travelers who transited through the airport or visited locations within the Metro South health region in the final week of February are urged to monitor for symptoms. Initial signs of infection typically include fever, lethargy, a runny nose, and sore eyes, followed by a red blotchy rash appearing a few days later. Health authorities emphasize that the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine remains the most effective defense and is available for free at participating local pharmacies and general practitioners.

Transport: George Street Bus Lane and Stop Reopening

Commuters are advised that the temporary closure of the George Street bus lane near Herschel Street is scheduled to conclude at 6:00 am on Friday, 6 March 2026. The closure, which supported essential infrastructure works for the Cross River Rail project, will see the restoration of standard services to the following locations:

  • Herschel Street Stop 1 (Stop ID: 000001)
  • Roma Street Stop 124 (Stop ID: 000124)

Buses will cease using the temporary North Quay Stop 106 diversion once the lanes are officially reopened on Friday morning. Pedestrian access through the Albert Street precinct remains subject to intermittent detours as work continues on station lot sites.

Planning: 'More Homes, Sooner' Public Consultation

Brisbane City Council is currently seeking community feedback on the 'More Homes, Sooner' citywide amendment. This proposal aims to increase housing diversity by refining design requirements for low-medium density residential zones and expanding the eligibility for small-lot subdivisions near shopping centres. The public consultation period is active this Friday and will remain open for formal submissions until 20 March 2026. Residents are encouraged to review the proposed changes to the Brisbane City Plan 2014 via the Council’s planning portal.
