Official Roundup: Thursday, 5 March 2026

As part of our commitment to keeping the community informed, the brisbane.news editorial team has compiled the latest official notices and public service announcements from the Brisbane City Council and Queensland Health. Residents and commuters should take note of the following active projects and advisories for Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Major Rail Infrastructure: Moorooka Station Closure

Commuters on the southern rail lines are reminded that Moorooka station is currently closed as part of a significant rebuild for the Cross River Rail project. This closure, which commenced earlier this week on March 2, is expected to remain in place until late 2027. The project aims to improve accessibility and station facilities. During this period, all train services will bypass Moorooka. Rail replacement buses are in operation, and passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys via the Translink website to account for additional travel time.

Local Park Maintenance and Upgrades

Several suburban parks are undergoing essential maintenance and facility upgrades this week. Residents should be aware of the following temporary area closures within local green spaces:

  • New Farm Park: Work continues on the decking upgrade around the playground. This project is part of a long-term revitalisation effort and is scheduled to remain a work zone until June.
  • Frew Park (Milton): Playground improvements, including the replacement of rubber undersurfacing and climbing wall fixtures, are in the final stages. The work area is expected to remain closed through Friday, March 6.
  • Sunset Park (Ashgrove): Construction of a new electrical compound is ongoing. The designated work area will remain closed to the public until approximately March 20.
  • Jamboree Lions Park (Middle Park): Upgrades to picnic facilities and the installation of connecting pathways have recently begun. Visitors should avoid the cordoned picnic areas until the end of the month.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Alert

Queensland Health has maintained an active health advisory following confirmed cases of measles in the region. Authorities have issued a specific alert for the Brisbane International Airport and areas within the Sunshine Coast. Individuals who were at these transit hubs in late February should remain vigilant for symptoms, which include fever, a persistent cough, and a distinctive rash. Health officials recommend that anyone born during or after 1966 ensures they have received two doses of the MMR vaccine to maintain community immunity.

Traffic and Roadwork Updates

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions due to ongoing council roadworks. In the Acacia Ridge area, both Learoyd Road and Mortimer Road have active work zones with lane occupancies and shuttle flow conditions in place to facilitate utility maintenance. Additionally, construction continues along Sandgate Road in Albion, where motorists may experience delays during peak hours. Please follow all posted signage and directions from traffic controllers to ensure the safety of work crews.
