Official City Roundup: Monday, 16 March 2026

Brisbane City Council and state authorities have issued several public notices and health advisories active as of Monday, 16 March 2026. Residents are encouraged to review the following updates regarding local infrastructure, planning consultations, and public safety measures.

Park Infrastructure and Maintenance

Several major park upgrade projects officially commence today. These works will involve the closure of specific recreational areas to ensure public safety during construction:

  • Bulimba Memorial Park: The playground is closed starting today, 16 March, for a comprehensive equipment upgrade and the installation of new shade structures. This facility is expected to remain closed until 17 April 2026.
  • Wills Street Park, Coorparoo: Playground renovation works begin today. The project includes the installation of a new play fort and specialized surfacing. The playground area will be inaccessible until approximately 30 April 2026.
  • Redhead Street Park, Doolandella: Construction of new picnic facilities, including a shelter, settings, and a water tap, starts today. Work is scheduled for completion by late April.
  • The Lake Parklands, Forest Lake: The picnic area is closed for facility upgrades from today through 26 March 2026.
  • Robertson Park, Indooroopilly: Maintenance crews are currently on-site installing new log rails and gates. The work area is expected to remain restricted until 20 March.

Planning and Development Notices

Community consultation remains open for several key urban planning initiatives:

  • More Homes, Sooner Amendment: Residents have until Friday, 20 March 2026, to provide feedback on the proposed citywide amendment regarding low-medium density residential design. The changes aim to support housing diversity by refining requirements for small lot houses and duplexes.
  • Development Application (Sunnybank): Public notification is active for a proposed development at 194 Mains Road, Sunnybank (Ref: A006867593). Submissions regarding the material change of use for this office site will be accepted until 2 April 2026.

Health and Safety Advisories

Queensland Health has issued a seasonal advisory regarding Melioidosis. Following recent rainfall and flooding events in the region, the risk of exposure to soil-borne bacteria has increased. Residents are advised to wear protective footwear and gloves when gardening and to avoid contact with muddy water or flood-affected soil.

Additionally, authorities remind parents that the 2026 Nasal Spray Flu Immunisation Program will begin in late March. This needle-free vaccine will be available free of charge for children aged 2 to 5 years at participating general practices and community pharmacies.

Traffic and Roadworks

Motorists should expect minor delays in Bellbowrie as excavation works begin today on Montanus Drive. Meanwhile, night works continue on the Story Bridge as part of the ongoing restoration project. These works are scheduled during off-peak hours to minimize disruption to the city's transport network.
