Brisbane Traffic and Commute Update: Monday, 23 March 2026

Good morning, Brisbane commuters. As we begin the work week this Monday, 23 March, several major road projects and infrastructure works are reaching critical milestones. While several significant weekend closures are scheduled to wrap up just before the morning rush, motorists and public transport users should remain alert for lingering congestion and new evening scheduled works.

CBD and Inner-City Road Conditions

The significant crane works on Eagle Street are scheduled to conclude at 5:00 am this morning. Over the past few days, a full closure has been in place between Charlotte Street and Market Street, which redirected a large volume of city traffic. While the road is expected to be clear for the morning peak, motorists should anticipate minor delays as site crews finalize the reopening and traffic patterns stabilize in the financial district.

In the Roma Street precinct, temporary eastbound lane and footpath changes remain in effect. These changes are necessary for the ongoing removal of the acoustic shed and concrete slabs as part of the station’s transformation. Pedestrians and cyclists should follow the clearly marked diversions around the construction site to ensure safety during the busy morning period.

Motorway and Arterial Updates

On the Logan Motorway, the eastbound on-ramp from Boundary Road and Skepper Street is slated to reopen at 5:00 am following a weekend closure. Similarly, the eastbound lane closures between Formation Street and Boundary Road that impacted travel over the weekend are ending. Commuters heading toward the southern suburbs should find these routes back to full capacity, though early-morning travelers may still encounter some work vehicles clearing the area.

Looking ahead to the evening commute, Gateway Motorway users should prepare for a new series of works. Intermittent lane closures are scheduled for the northbound off-ramp to Wynnum Road starting tonight at 8:00 pm. These nightly works will continue through Thursday, operating between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am to minimize impact on daytime traffic.

Public Transport and Rail Services

In the rail network, Moorooka station remains closed as major construction continues for the station rebuild. This long-term closure is expected to last until late 2027. Passengers are advised to continue using the provided rail-replacement bus services and plan for slightly longer transit times.

Additionally, while the major track works at Clapham Yard are scheduled to end at 2:00 am this morning, commuters on the southside should check for any residual schedule adjustments. Station construction also continues at Woolloongabba and Albert Street, with local traffic holds and pedestrian diversions in place near the worksites. These projects are essential for the delivery of the high-frequency turn-up-and-go transport system planned for the city.

Commuter Advice

To ensure a stress-free start to your week, we recommend allowing an extra 10 minutes for your journey if you are traveling through the CBD or utilizing the southern motorway corridors. Real-time updates are available through official transport apps, and following the directions of traffic controllers in construction zones remains a priority for everyone's safety.
