Wednesday Morning Traffic and Transit Outlook

Brisbane commuters should prepare for a mix of scheduled infrastructure projects and late-night service disruptions this Wednesday, March 18, 2026. While the morning peak is expected to follow standard patterns, major construction phases for the Cross River Rail and the Centenary Bridge upgrade are currently influencing traffic flow on several key arteries. Additionally, specific public transport alerts will impact those traveling late in the evening.

Public Transport: Rail and Bus Alerts

Translink has issued several critical notices for Wednesday. Commuters on the western lines should note a late-night track closure affecting the Ipswich, Rosewood, and Springfield lines on March 18. Passengers traveling after approximately 9:00 pm are advised to check the journey planner for replacement bus schedules. On the Shorncliffe line, mid-week evening track closures continue as part of the digital signaling upgrade project, with services impacted from early evening.

  • Moorooka Station: Remains fully closed to all passengers as part of the Southside Station Rebuilds. Commuters should utilize the rail replacement bus services or alternative local bus routes.
  • Bus Stop Closures: Temporary stop closures are in effect today at East Leagues in Greenslopes, Deshon Street in Woolloongabba, and Blackwood Street in Mitchelton. In Bray Park, the Youngs Crossing Road stop also remains closed through the end of the day.

Roadwork and Highway Impacts

On the roads, several major projects are creating localized bottlenecks. On the Centenary Motorway, traffic is now utilizing the new northbound bridge at Jindalee, but drivers should remain alert for speed restrictions and changing conditions as works shift toward the southbound reconstruction phase. In the south, the M1 Pacific Motorway upgrade between Eight Mile Plains and Daisy Hill continues to see overnight lane narrowing and temporary ramp diversions near Rochedale.

In the inner city, commuters should be aware of reported closures affecting segments of the Inner City Bypass (ICB) and Hale Street due to a major cycling event. Motorists are encouraged to verify live traffic feeds for Boomerang Street and the William Street off-ramps before heading toward the CBD.

Local Road Conditions

  • Annerley: Multiple work zones are active along Ipswich Road, particularly near the Cornwall Street intersection, causing delays for inbound traffic.
  • Albion: Major excavation works on Sandgate Road and Hudson Road are scheduled for completion today, which may result in final heavy machinery movements and short-term lane closures.
  • Logan Motorway: The eastbound off-ramp to Beaudesert Road in Parkinson will be closed tonight from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am for maintenance.

Commuters are advised to allow an additional 10-15 minutes for journeys through the southern corridor and to consider alternative routes if traveling through Annerley or Albion during peak periods.
