Severe Weather and Flood Alerts

Commuters are urged to exercise extreme caution this morning as the significant March 2026 Queensland flood event continues to impact the region. Emergency alerts remain active for several low-lying areas across Greater Brisbane. Authorities have reported minor to moderate flooding in localized catchments, and drivers are reminded of the critical safety message: if it is flooded, forget it. Please check your local disaster dashboard before departing, as some school closures have been anticipated due to the weather conditions.

Major Arteries and Motorway Updates

Traffic flow on major motorways will see shifts this morning as overnight maintenance works conclude. The Gateway Motorway southbound off-ramp to Moreton Drive at Brisbane Airport is scheduled to reopen at 5:00 AM following planned roadworks. However, residual slowing may occur as crews pack down equipment. On the Logan Motorway, overnight closures between Formation Street and Boundary Road at Ellen Grove are also expected to wrap up by 5:00 AM. Motorists should be aware of a special event in the inner city; full road closures with detours remain in place around Gregory Terrace, King Street, and Alexandria Street in the Bowen Hills and Fortitude Valley precinct.

Local Roadworks and Council Alerts

Several long-term infrastructure projects are currently impacting suburban traffic flow. Commuters should allow extra time when traveling through the following zones:

  • Albion: Construction continues on Sandgate Road, with additional excavation works occurring near Hudson Road. Speed restrictions are in place.
  • Acacia Ridge: Roadworks on Learoyd Road and Mortimer Road are reaching their final stages but continue to cause delays during peak hours.
  • Annerley: Ongoing network renewal projects on Ipswich Road and Cornwall Street are resulting in lane narrowings and intermittent stop-go signaling.
  • Alderley: Maintenance on South Pine Road and Enoggera Road may cause bottlenecks for those heading toward the CBD.

Public Transport and Rail Integration

The Brisbane rail network is currently operational; however, Translink and Queensland Rail have advised that the focus has shifted heavily to systems integration and testing for the Cross River Rail project. While services are running today, commuters should be aware of a massive network-wide shutdown scheduled for early April. Plan ahead if you rely on the Beenleigh, Gold Coast, or Sunshine Coast lines, as significant track closures are imminent in the coming weeks. For today, bus and ferry services are operating on regular Friday schedules, though some bus routes may be diverted in areas affected by minor flooding.
