A series of major road closures and public transport changes are in effect to accommodate the Run Army 2026 event, which is set to impact the CBD, South Brisbane, and Kangaroo Point areas until mid-morning. Authorities are urging residents to plan ahead and allow for significant extra travel time.

Widespread CBD and Bridge Closures

The most substantial impact on motorists will be the full closure of several key river crossings. Between 5:00 AM and 9:30 AM, both the Story Bridge (Bradfield Highway) and the William Jolly Bridge are closed to all vehicle traffic. To help alleviate the resulting congestion, the Go Between Bridge has been made toll-free during this period. Drivers are strongly advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the inner-city core where possible, as heavy congestion is expected on the remaining open corridors.

Major surface streets are also affected by full or partial closures. In the CBD, sections of Adelaide Street, Ann Street, George Street, and William Street are restricted. Across the river, South Brisbane and Woolloongabba will see closures on Grey Street, Melbourne Street, and Glenelg Street. Parking restrictions are also in place, with "No Standing Tow Away" zones active on several streets, including parts of Makerston Street and Grey Street, until midday today. This includes impacts on Airtrain services to and from the Brisbane Airport; travelers should allow at least an extra 30 minutes for their journey to the terminal.

Buses are experiencing significant route changes due to the Run Army event. Between 5:00 AM and 9:30 AM, numerous stops along George Street, William Street, and Queen Street are closed. Specifically, Route 234 towards Brisbane City will not be running during this morning window. Passengers using routes 301, 309, 322, 375, 380, 381, 470, and 475 should check for alternative boarding points, such as the Roma Street busway or Turbot Street stops, to avoid missing their services.

Ongoing Roadworks and Long-term Impacts

Outside of the central event area, planned roadworks continue to affect major arteries. On the Logan Motorway, the eastbound on-ramp from Boundary Road and Skepper Street at Ellen Grove remains closed for resurfacing and will not reopen until 5:00 AM Monday morning. Additionally, Montague Street in Stones Corner is restricted to a half-road closure between Old Cleveland Road and Stoneham Street.
