Public Notice: Easter Saturday Essential Services and Transport Disruptions

Waste and Recycling Services
Despite the Easter Saturday public holiday on 4 April 2026, Brisbane City Council has confirmed that all residential wheelie bin collections will proceed according to the regular Saturday schedule. Residents are advised to have their bins placed at the kerbside by 5:30 am to ensure collection. For those looking to dispose of larger quantities of waste or green garden debris, Brisbane’s four resource recovery centres—located at Chandler, Ferny Grove, Nudgee, and Willawong—remain open from 6:30 am to 5:45 pm. Standard disposal fees or waste vouchers will apply.
Public Library Closures
Members of the community are reminded that all Brisbane City Council library branches will be closed on Saturday, 4 April 2026, for the Easter long weekend. This closure includes all 33 suburban branches as well as the Brisbane Square Library. After-hours return chutes and book bins will be locked during this period to prevent overflow. Normal operating hours across the network are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, 7 April. However, digital resources, including e-books and the library catalogue app, remain accessible 24/7 for all members.
Major Rail Disruptions and Track Work
A significant network-wide rail shutdown is in effect this Saturday as part of a planned infrastructure upgrade program. Translink has issued a major service alert for the following lines: Airport, Beenleigh, Caboolture, Doomben, Gold Coast, Redcliffe Peninsula, Shorncliffe, and the Sunshine Coast. On these routes, rail-replacement buses will operate in place of trains for the duration of the day. Travelers heading to the Brisbane International or Domestic Airports are urged to allow an additional 90 minutes for their journey, as the Airtrain is currently truncated at Eagle Junction, necessitating a bus transfer from the CBD. Additionally, Ipswich line services will continue to run but will depart Bowen Hills six minutes earlier than the standard timetable between 6 am and 7 pm.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Alert
Queensland Health has maintained an active measles alert for the Brisbane and Metro South regions following confirmed cases in the area. Residents and visitors who were at the Brisbane International Airport arrivals terminal or specific locations in the southside during late March should remain vigilant for symptoms, which can take up to three weeks to manifest. Symptoms include fever, lethargy, a runny nose, and a blotchy red rash. Health authorities urge anyone experiencing these symptoms to contact their GP via telephone before attending a clinic in person to prevent further community transmission.
Park Activities and Holiday Programs
Roma Street Parkland is currently hosting free family-friendly activities throughout Easter Saturday, with a focus on programs for young children and holiday-themed events. The Museum of Brisbane also remains open from 10 am to 5 pm, offering the free 'Little Artist’s Eye Spy' activity sheet for families. While most Council administrative offices are closed for the holiday, scheduled 'Active and Healthy' fitness sessions in local parks will proceed as planned, weather permitting.
