Public Notice: Health Advisories and City Infrastructure Roundup for March 31

Public Health Alert: Measles Symptom Monitoring
Queensland Health has issued an active public health alert for the Greater Brisbane region following confirmed cases of measles involving travelers and residents. Authorities have identified the Brisbane International Airport arrivals terminal as a primary exposure site for Thursday, 19 March 2026, between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. As the incubation period for the virus can last up to 21 days, residents who were present at the airport or in the Brisbane southside area during this window are urged to remain vigilant for symptoms through early April.
Health officials advise that initial symptoms often include a high fever, lethargy, a runny nose, and sore, red eyes. These are typically followed by a blotchy red rash that begins on the face and spreads across the body. Measles is highly infectious and spreads through respiratory secretions. Residents who suspect they may be developing symptoms are instructed to stay home and contact their GP or 13HEALTH immediately. It is critical to phone ahead before visiting any medical facility to allow staff to take necessary infection control precautions.
Infrastructure & Traffic Management
Brisbane City Council is overseeing several essential infrastructure projects that will impact traffic flow on Tuesday, 31 March. Motorists are advised to plan for delays in the following zones:
- Annerley: Ongoing utility and road resurfacing works continue on Ipswich Road and Cornwall Street. These works are part of a long-term upgrade program scheduled through June. Expect reduced speed limits and intermittent lane closures throughout the day.
- Alderley: Planned overnight maintenance on South Pine Road between Railway Place and Wakefield Street will conclude its early morning shift at 5:00 am. However, equipment staging may affect shoulder access during daylight hours.
- Story Bridge Advance Warning: While the Story Bridge (Bradfield Highway) is fully operational today, the Council has issued an early notice for major maintenance starting Thursday, 2 April. Commuters should prepare for a single southbound lane closure beginning at 9:00 pm this Thursday as crews begin concrete repairs beneath the road surface.
