Public Notice: Infrastructure Milestones and Seasonal Health Programs

Transport and Infrastructure Alerts
As part of the ongoing Cross River Rail project, significant construction milestones are scheduled for the Roma Street precinct this week. Residents and commuters should be aware of the following changes:
- Acoustic Shed and Slab Removal: Commencing mid-March 2026, works will begin at the corner of Roma Street and Parkland Boulevard to remove the large acoustic shed and concrete slab. These works are expected to take approximately eight weeks and may involve increased noise and heavy vehicle movements in the immediate area.
- Pedestrian and Cyclist Diversions: The temporary shared user path between George and Roma streets remains closed to facilitate essential utility and streetscape upgrades. A dedicated detour is in place via the bicycle lane on George Street. This closure is scheduled to remain in effect through early April 2026.
- Busway Maintenance: Minor finishing works and maintenance continue at the recently opened Adelaide Street tunnel and Buranda busway station. While services remain operational, commuters are advised to follow all directional signage.
Public Health Advisories
Queensland Health has officially activated the 2026 Free Flu Vaccination Program. All Brisbane residents aged six months and older are eligible to receive a free influenza vaccine from participating General Practices and pharmacies. This year’s program specifically includes coverage for residents without a Medicare card to ensure broad community protection. Additionally, the Nasal Spray Flu Immunisation Program for children aged two to five years will begin rolling out in late March at community clinics.
Community Planning and Development
Brisbane City Council has issued a public notification for a proposed development (Material Change of Use) at 194 Mains Road, Sunnybank (Reference: A006867593). Members of the public are invited to view the application details via the PDOnline portal. The period for formal submissions is currently open and will conclude on 02 April 2026.
Weather and Safety Warning
In response to recent activity involving Tropical Low 34U, a number of flood warnings remain active across South East Queensland. Residents are urged to monitor local disaster dashboards and avoid travel through flooded areas. Council reminds all citizens: "If it’s flooded, forget it." Damage to local road surfaces following recent heavy rain is currently being assessed by maintenance crews.
Council Governance
Following the final ordinary meeting on Tuesday, 17 March, Brisbane City Council has officially entered its Autumn Recess. While standing committee and ordinary meetings are suspended until May 12, 2026, essential Council services and customer service centers remain fully operational for resident enquiries and emergency maintenance requests.
