Traffic and Parking Alert: Bowen Hills Event Access

Brisbane City Council advises residents and commuters of significant changes to traffic and parking conditions in Bowen Hills to accommodate the National 4x4 and Outdoors Show. These changes are in effect from 5:30 AM Tuesday, 10 March, and will remain in place until 4:00 PM Monday, 16 March 2026. Localized congestion is expected around the Brisbane Showgrounds and surrounding streets. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes or utilize public transport where possible. Temporary parking restrictions will be strictly enforced to ensure emergency vehicle access and resident mobility.

Public Infrastructure: Centenary Bridge and Metro Operations

Progress continues on the Centenary Bridge Upgrade project. Following the successful opening of the new northbound bridge, the reconstruction phase for the original southbound structure is now active. Motorists travelling between Jindalee and Kenmore should remain alert to shifting lane configurations and reduced speed limits. While the project is staged to maintain traffic flow in both directions, minor delays may occur during peak periods as crews conduct structural remediation and road surface upgrades.

Additionally, the Brisbane Metro network is now in its first full year of integrated operations. The Adelaide Street tunnel remains the primary corridor for M1 and M2 services, successfully reducing bus congestion at surface level. Commuters are reminded that the 'turn-up-and-go' frequency remains at five-minute intervals during peak times, and the Victoria Bridge continues to operate as a dedicated green bridge for Metro, bus, and active transport only.

Council Procurement: Final Call for Tenders

Business owners and contractors are notified that the tender period for the 'Solar on Sherwood and Willawong Council Bus Depots' (RFx: Doc93795974) concludes today, Wednesday, 11 March 2026. All electronic submissions must be finalized by 12:00 PM (noon). This initiative is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure across municipal facilities. Furthermore, tenders for 'Electricity for Small Market Sites' are scheduled to close this Friday, 13 March.

Public Health: Mosquito Management Program

Following recent seasonal rainfall across the South East, Council’s mosquito management teams are continuing treatments in known breeding sites. This includes aerial treatments in tidal wetlands and ground-based inspections of local parklands and drainage systems. Residents are encouraged to assist by emptying any standing water around their properties to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illness.
