Major Rail Disruptions on the Sunshine Coast Line

Commuters heading in from the north will face significant disruptions today, Monday, 16 March 2026. Queensland Rail has confirmed a scheduled track closure on the Sunshine Coast line between Landsborough and Caboolture stations. This closure is part of the ongoing Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade and essential maintenance. Rail replacement buses will be operating in both directions throughout the day. Passengers should allow for at least 30 minutes of additional travel time and check the Translink app for the most current bus departure points.

Moorooka Station Closure and Southern Line Impacts

On the southern network, Moorooka station remains completely closed to all passengers. This closure, which began earlier this month, is necessary for the major demolition and reconstruction of the station platforms and buildings as part of the Cross River Rail project. Commuters who normally use Moorooka should continue to use the designated high-frequency alternative bus services or travel to nearby stations such as Yeronga or Rocklea. Additionally, supporting works for the Cross River Rail project may cause minor platform changes and intermittent delays for the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines during the morning peak.

Western Corridor: Centenary Bridge Southbound Reconstruction

Motorists using the Centenary Motorway should be aware that the major southbound reconstruction phase of the Centenary Bridge at Jindalee is now in full swing. While the new three-lane northbound bridge is open and carrying city-bound traffic, the original bridge structure is undergoing extensive rehabilitation and structural upgrades. Speed limits are strictly reduced to 60km/h through the construction zone, and motorists are advised to expect heavy congestion during the morning merge from Sinnamon Park and Jindalee. Significant delays are expected during the peak period, particularly for those heading towards the Ipswich Motorway.

CBD and Inner-City Roadworks

In the heart of the city, the Adelaide Street underground busway tunnel is entering a critical testing phase for the Brisbane Metro. While most vehicle lanes remain open, localized bus lane adjustments near George and Herschel Streets may impact surface-level bus timing. Furthermore, the shared user path between George and Roma Streets remains closed for construction, with pedestrians diverted via the signalized crossing at Makerston Street. In the inner suburbs, ongoing roadworks are reported on Sandgate Road in Albion and Ipswich Road through Annerley, where various service installations and resurfacing works are causing localized lane closures and slow-moving traffic.
